The IEP Workshop
The IEP process can be a daunting experience for parents concerned about their child having a good school year. After all, the school personnel are the experts, right? Well, so are you when it comes to knowing your child.

In this workshop, we will

  • provide an overview of the four stages of Individual Education Plan (IEP) development and the seven essential components of an IEP;
  • review the following:
    • developing “S.M.A.R.T.” outcomes or goals;
    • questions to ask to improve the IEP; and
    • the roles of the different team members;
  • look at the Parent Guide to Inclusive Education (2008) introduced by Community Living Manitoba; and
  • look at the Manitoba Education document, “Student Specific Planning: A Handbook for Developing and Implementing Individual Education Plans (2011).

Come and learn more about how to contribute toward the creation of an effective working document that leads to important measurable gains for your child.

The Presenter
Dean Jonasson brings to the table nearly 40 years working in the field of supports for students and adults. This includes over 25 years as a special education teacher / case manager for the River East Transcona School Division, decades on the executive of the Manitoba Council for Exceptional Children and partnering with various community organizations concerned with supports for students with exceptional needs. Dean is a skilled facilitator of person-centred plans (i.e. PATH) and has been a key organizer of numerous provincial training events for educators and Transition Evenings for students and parents throughout the city. He regards his recent retirement as a classic example of ’transition’, crediting both creative planning and the support of a dedicated team as keys to success.
